Where is the serial number on an Orbea bike?

On Orbea bikes, the serial number is called the «matrícula» (plate) and it is a numeric code stuck on the underside of the frame: near the fork, the bottom bracket or the seat tube. That is what Orbea says on its bike registration page. It is the number you need to activate the warranty, to report the bike stolen and to check a used Orbea.

Step by step

  1. Look for it under the frame

Orbea explains that the number is stuck on the underside of the frame, not on top. Lay the bike down or turn it over and go along the underside of the frame.

  2. Check the three places Orbea gives

According to Orbea, it is near the fork (at the front, under the head tube), near the bottom bracket axle or near the seat tube. If you do not see it straight away, check all three.

  3. Copy the numeric code

Orbea describes the plate as a numeric code. If there are several codes on the label, the one you want is that number; if in doubt, compare it with the receipt or with what the Orbea registration form asks for.

  4. Register the bike with Orbea and on destolen

Orbea asks you to register the bike with its plate within 30 days of purchase to benefit from its warranty. Also register it for free on destolen with the number and photos: if it is stolen, you will have everything to hand for the police report.

  5. Before buying a used one, check it

If you are buying an Orbea second-hand, ask to see the number on the frame (not just in a photo) and type it into the destolen checker: it is free and you do not need an account. If it is reported stolen, do not buy it and tell the police. If it is not, that only means it does not appear in the sources checked.

What Orbea says

On its registration page, Orbea explains that the plate of an Orbea bike is a numeric code stuck on the underside of the frame, near the fork, the bottom bracket axle or the seat tube, and that you should register the bike within 30 days of purchase to get its warranty.

Because it is stuck on rather than stamped, it can peel off or wear with use: photograph it on day one and keep the photo with the receipt.

If the label is missing or cannot be read

If it is your bike, look for the number on the receipt or in your Orbea registration if you made one, or ask the shop where you bought it, with your proof of purchase.

If you are buying a used Orbea and the label has been torn off, scratched or covered, be suspicious: ask for the receipt and, if the seller cannot explain where the bike comes from, do not buy it. You can tell the police and give them the link to the listing.
