Terms of use
Updated on 23 October 2026
This is a courtesy translation. In case of any discrepancy, the Spanish version prevails.
1. Who we are and acceptance
destolen is a service of BBRAVE SENTINEL, S.L. (single-member company), Tax ID B88862735, with registered office at Calle Río Danubio, 2, portal 3, 2.º D, 28913 Leganés (Madrid), Spain, registered in the Madrid Commercial Register, Sheet M-891920, 1st entry. Contact: soporte@destolen.com.
These terms govern the use of destolen.com and the purchase of its services by individuals. By creating your account or purchasing a service, you accept them. Business use of the API is governed by its own terms (section 10).
2. What destolen is and is not
destolen helps you register your bikes, monitor second-hand listings and search for your bike if it is stolen, and shows you the listings similar to your bike, with a similarity percentage.
destolen does not recover bikes: we are not the police, detectives or an insurer. We do not guarantee that your bike will appear in a listing or that you will recover it. The similarity percentage is an indication, not proof: it compares your bike’s details and photos with the listing’s, but it may not be your bike. You decide whether a listing is your bike; we never contact the seller. If you think it is yours, go to the police and do not confront the seller.
destolen also works for e-scooters (light personal vehicles): you can register them, report their theft and check them with their DGT registration number. We do not check second-hand e-scooter listings yet. destolen does not replace registering the e-scooter with the DGT or the compulsory insurance.
3. Your account
- You must be at least 14 to create an account and of legal age to purchase paid services.
- The data you give us must be true and up to date. The account is personal: keep your password safe and tell us if someone uses it without permission.
- You need an account to purchase Protection or the Search.
4. Services and prices
Prices include applicable taxes.
- Bike registration: free, up to 5 bikes per account. It includes the certificate with the destolen No. and lets anyone check with the checker whether a bike is reported stolen. It does not include listing monitoring.
- Protection: €2.99 per month per bike or €29 per year per bike. It is a subscription that renews automatically every month or year until you cancel it. It includes monitoring of second-hand listings for your covered bikes and, if you report a covered bike stolen, the Search at no cost (one included Search in progress per covered bike and, at most, one per bike every 12 months). The included Search is for the bike registered in your account that you protect, reported as stolen, and covers thefts that occur and are reported on destolen from the seventh day after you take out its Protection (7-day waiting period); during those days you can buy the Search separately. If the Protection ends (at the end of the paid period if you cancel it, or immediately if it is refunded or you withdraw), its included Search in progress ends at the same time. We will email you at least 15 days before each renewal, annual or monthly, with the date and amount of the payment. You can cancel it at any time in Settings → Plan; cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period and you will not be charged for any further period.
- Search: €19.99, one-off payment, no renewal. For 30 days from activation we monitor second-hand listings looking for your bike, show you in «My theft» the listings similar to your bike with their similarity percentage and email you about the most similar ones. If you recover it earlier, the Search ends.
How Protection monitoring works. Several times a day, each time we crawl the second-hand classified sites and portals of the countries we cover (today, Spain), we check the new listings for the serial numbers of your covered bikes and for listings with the same make, model and similar photos. In My vehicles we show you the listings similar to your bike with their similarity percentage and email you about the most similar ones, at most a few times a day. It is a possible match: we do not guarantee that any listing similar to your bike will turn up or that we will see every listing, and we never contact the seller. If you tell us it is your bike, we take you to report the theft with Search included.
Payment is made by card through Stripe. We will send you confirmation by email.
Where they can be bought. Free bike registration and the checker work from any country. Search and Protection can only be bought in the countries of the European Union and the European Economic Area where we search second-hand listings; today, Spain. The current list is on the Pricing page and may grow. If you are in another country, you can ask us to let you know when we start. For Search, the country of the theft counts; for Protection, yours. We only search listings published in the countries we cover, even if the bike was stolen elsewhere.
United Kingdom. Search and Protection cannot be bought from the United Kingdom. When you pay, Stripe asks for your billing address: if it is in the United Kingdom, we cancel the purchase and pay you back the full amount.
Legal guarantee. As digital services, Protection and Search are covered by the legal guarantee of conformity in Articles 114 et seq. of the Spanish consolidated General Law for the Defence of Consumers and Users (Texto Refundido de la Ley General para la Defensa de los Consumidores y Usuarios).
E-scooters.
- E-scooter registration: free, up to 5 e-scooters per account, in addition to the 5 bikes. It includes the certificate with the destolen No. and lets anyone check with the checker, also by its DGT registration number, whether it is reported stolen.
- Protection: not available for e-scooters.
- Search for an e-scooter: €9.99 (launch price), one-off payment, no renewal. For 30 days from activation, the e-scooter shows as stolen to anyone who checks its number on destolen (including business clients of the API), we email you if a business checks it, you can create an alert to share and we look on the web for pages with its photos, if that feature is on. It does not include checking second-hand listings or the guarantee in section 5.
5. «30 more days free» guarantee
If no listing with a high similarity has appeared when the 30 days of a paid Search end, we extend it 30 more days at no cost:
- It applies automatically, without you having to request it, and only once per Search.
- The new 30 days are counted from the end of the Search (or from when it is applied, if applied later). We notify you by email of the new end date.
- A listing has a high similarity when it mentions your bike’s serial number or when its similarity percentage is equal to or above the email alert threshold, currently 85%. What counts is a listing we have shown you in «My theft» during the Search. If you hide it because it is not your bike (“Hide” button), it no longer counts and, if there is no other, the guarantee applies, even if you hide it after the Search has ended. A match we have notified you of or confirmed also counts, unless you tell us it was not your bike.
- Websites where only a photo of your bike appears (labelled “A photo of your bike appears here” in «My theft») do not count, even if they are shown with a high percentage: they may be your own posts or other people’s, not second-hand listings.
- It does not apply to the Search included with Protection.
- The guarantee consists of extending the Search; it does not involve returning the price.
The guarantee does not apply to the Search for an e-scooter, which does not include listing checks yet (section 4).
6. Right of withdrawal
If you are a consumer, you have 14 calendar days from purchase to withdraw from Protection or the Search without giving reasons (articles 102 et seq. of the Spanish consolidated General Law for the Protection of Consumers and Users).
Both services start immediately: when purchasing them you expressly ask us to start them during the withdrawal period by ticking the corresponding box before paying, and we keep a dated record of that request. Therefore:
- If you withdraw within the period, you will only pay the proportional part of the service provided until you tell us, and we will return the rest within 14 days at most, using the same payment method.
- If the service has been fully provided within the period, with your express consent and knowing that you thereby lose this right, you can no longer withdraw.
How to withdraw: with the «Withdraw from the contract here» button in Settings → Plan (or in «My theft», for the Search), which will ask you to confirm and will immediately send you an acknowledgement with the date and time; or by writing to soporte@destolen.com with the subject «Desistimiento» (withdrawal), giving your name, your account email, the service and the purchase date. You can use this model:
«I hereby give notice that I withdraw from my contract for the following service: […]. Purchased on […]. Name: […]. Account email: […]. Date: […].»
7. Use of the serial number and DGT number checker
The checker is free and for guidance only. It answers with our data and data from public sources: a bike not being reported stolen does not guarantee its legitimate origin, and a bike being reported does not prove the seller has committed a crime. It does not show the owner's data.
We limit the number of checks. Bulk or automated use is prohibited; for professional use, there is the business API.
The same applies to an e-scooter’s DGT registration number: not being reported stolen on destolen does not guarantee its origin, and destolen does not consult the DGT register.
8. Prohibited use
You may not:
- report false thefts or register bikes that are not yours;
- use destolen to harass, threaten or confront sellers or other people;
- send anonymous messages for commercial, offensive or abusive purposes;
- upload unlawful content or photos with other people's personal data;
- use bots, scraping or other automated means, bypass usage limits, or try to access systems or data without permission;
- reverse-engineer the service or use it to build a competing service.
If you breach these terms, we may remove content, suspend or close your account and, where appropriate, take legal action.
9. Your content
The photos and data you upload remain yours. You give us a free, non-exclusive permission to use them only to provide the service (showing them in your garage, on your public report page and on posters, comparing them with listings and generating the certificate) for as long as needed for that. You must have the right to upload them.
10. Businesses and API
Business access to the API (serial number checks, listing scores, registration by shops) requires a key. The Taller and Tienda plans subscribed online are governed by the Business Terms; other plans and pilots, by their own signed agreement. More information on the business page or at soporte@destolen.com.
11. Liability
We provide the service diligently, but we are not liable if your bike does not appear or is not recovered, for the content of third-party listings, for what sellers, buyers or other people do, for the decisions of the authorities or for interruptions of listing portals or our providers. We may interrupt the service for maintenance or for reasons beyond our control.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for wilful misconduct or gross negligence or the rights the law grants you as a consumer.
12. Changes to the service and to these terms
We may improve the service and change the portals we monitor. If we change these terms or prices significantly, we will notify you in advance by email; price changes to a subscription will apply from the next period and you can cancel before if you do not agree.
13. Cancellation
You can cancel Protection at any time in Settings and ask us to close your account by writing to soporte@destolen.com. We may close your account if you seriously breach these terms, notifying you beforehand unless the law or security prevents it.
14. Applicable law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by Spanish law. If you are a consumer, the courts of your place of residence have jurisdiction. You can also contact the consumer authorities where you live. If you live in another country of the European Union or the European Economic Area, this choice of law does not deprive you of the protection given to you by the mandatory rules of your country (Article 6 of Regulation (EC) No 593/2008, "Rome I"), and you may also contact the consumer bodies of your country.
