Check an e-scooter

Before buying a second-hand e-scooter, check whether it is registered on destolen or reported stolen. All you need is its DGT registration number, its serial number or the QR code on its certificate.

The DGT number is on its registration certificate and identification label; the serial number, under the deck or on the stem.

What the e-scooter checker looks up

It is free and needs no account. It looks up the number you type as a DGT registration number and as a serial number (of the e-scooter, motor or battery) among the e-scooters registered and reported on destolen and in the theft databases we check, and tells you whether it is reported stolen, without showing any of the owner’s details. It ignores capitals, spaces and hyphens.

What each result means

Reported stolen
The number matches an e-scooter reported stolen; we tell you where the report comes from. Do not buy it or pay any money and tell the police.
Recovered after a theft
The e-scooter was stolen and later recovered. Ask for the DGT certificate in the seller’s name.
Registered, no theft reports
The e-scooter is registered on destolen and is not reported stolen. It does not say who the owner is: ask for the DGT certificate and the invoice anyway.
No information
Not on record: the number is not registered on destolen and does not appear in the sources. It is no guarantee that the e-scooter is not stolen.

Limits

  • We only check the e-scooters registered and reported on destolen and the sources on this page. We have no access to the DGT Vehicle Register or to police reports.
  • «Not on record» does not guarantee that the e-scooter is not stolen: many thefts are not reported on destolen.
  • If a source does not respond, the result tells you; repeat the check before buying.

Frequently asked questions about the e-scooter checker

How much does it cost to check an e-scooter?

Nothing. The destolen checker is free and needs no account. To prevent abuse there is a limit on consecutive checks from the same place.

Which number should I type?

The DGT registration number on the e-scooter’s registration certificate and identification label (for example, M 1234 BCD) or its serial number, usually on a sticker under the deck or on the stem.

Do you check the DGT register?

No. We look up the number among the e-scooters registered and reported on destolen and in the theft databases we check. To know who the holder is, ask the seller for the registration certificate in their name.

Will I see the owner’s details?

No. At most you will see whether it is registered, its make, model and main photo (unless the owner keeps it private) and, if it is reported stolen, which source the report comes from.
