Where is the serial number on a Scott bike?

On Scott bikes without a motor, the serial number is on a barcode label on the lower down tube, just above the bottom bracket, and on a small round label under the bottom bracket. On e-bikes, the label is higher up, on the seat tube. That is what the help drawings on Scott’s bike registration page show.

Step by step

  1. No motor: look at the down tube by the bottom bracket

In Scott’s drawing for bikes without a motor, the number is on a barcode label on the lower part of the down tube (the tube coming down from the handlebar), just above the bottom bracket shell.

  2. Also check under the bottom bracket

The same drawing points to another small, round label on the underside of the bottom bracket shell. Lay the bike down or turn it over to see it.

  3. E-bike: look at the seat tube

In Scott’s drawing for e-bikes, the barcode label is on the seat tube, above the motor. The exact spot may vary by model: if you cannot see it, go along that tube and the down tube.

  4. Photograph it and register it

Take a close-up photo where the number can be read and another showing where it is on the frame, and keep them with the receipt. Register your Scott for free on destolen (up to 5 bikes) with the number and the photos: if it is stolen, you will have everything to hand for the police report.

  5. Before buying a used one, check it

If you are buying a Scott second-hand, ask to see the number on the frame (not just in a photo) and type it into the destolen checker: it is free and you do not need an account. If it is reported stolen, do not buy it and tell the police. If it is not, that only means it does not appear in the sources checked.

What Scott says

On its bike registration page, Scott asks for the serial number to register the bike and links to two help drawings, one for bikes and one for e-bikes, showing where the serial number labels are. The help is only a drawing, with no text: we describe what it shows.

Scott does not explain the format of the number on that page. Copy every character on the label in the same order and compare it with the receipt.

If the label is missing or cannot be read

If it is your bike, look for the number on the receipt or ask the Scott shop where you bought it, with your proof of purchase.

If you are buying a bike and the number has been filed off, scratched, painted over or the label has been torn off, do not buy it: it is a red flag. You can tell the police and give them the link to the listing.
