Where is the serial number on a Giant bike?

On Giant bikes, the frame number can be in four places: on the seat tube under the top tube, near the bottom bracket shell, on the underside of the bottom bracket shell or on the left rear dropout, where the rear wheel hub is held. That is what Giant says on its warranty page. If you cannot find it, Giant recommends asking an authorised Giant dealer.

Step by step

  1. Start at the bottom bracket

Turn the bike over or lay it down and look at the bottom bracket shell, underneath and around it: Giant gives both positions, near the shell and on its underside.

  2. Look at the seat tube under the top tube

Another place Giant gives is the seat tube, just below where it joins the top tube.

  3. Check the left rear dropout

If it is in neither of those places, look at the left rear dropout, the part that holds the rear wheel axle on the side away from the chain.

  4. Photograph it and register it

Take a close-up photo where the number can be read and another showing where it is on the frame, and keep them with the receipt. Register your Giant for free on destolen (up to 5 bikes) with the number and the photos: if it is stolen, you will have everything to hand for the police report.

  5. Before buying a used one, check it

If you are buying a Giant second-hand, ask to see the number on the frame (not just in a photo) and type it into the destolen checker: it is free and you do not need an account. If it is reported stolen, do not buy it and tell the police. If it is not, that only means it does not appear in the sources checked.

What Giant says

On its warranty page, Giant explains that the frame number on its bikes is on the seat tube under the top tube, near the bottom bracket shell, on the underside of the bottom bracket shell or on the left rear dropout. It asks you to note the model and serial number and, if you cannot find it, to check with an authorised Giant dealer.

Giant does not describe the format of the number on that page: copy every character in the same order and compare it with the receipt.

If the number is worn off or you cannot find it

If it is your bike, look for it on the receipt and ask an authorised Giant dealer, as the brand recommends, with your proof of purchase.

If you are buying a bike and the number has been filed off, scratched, painted over or the label has been torn off, do not buy it: it is a red flag. You can tell the police and give them the link to the listing.
